It's Great to be an AUBURN Tiger!!!

Brad and I had the amazing opportunity to attend the BCS National Championship game this year in Glendale, AZ. Even more amazing is that our AUBURN Tigers WON!!!

We headed to Las Vegas on Saturday night on a very late flight. We woke the next morning (Sunday) and started our drive to Phoenix. We attended the Tailgate party, Tiger Walk and the game on Monday. What an experience! It was so much fun and a once in a lifetime treat for us : ) We headed back to Vegas on Tuesday and then flew home on Wednesday. Brad and I got to spend time together which is rare these days with two little ones.

While we were gone, Cartersville got lots of snow. (Thanks so much to Pop and Dee for entertaining the boys inside for 4 days!!!) We were glad to get home to see the boys but are very thankful for the experience that we had this year in January. Brad and I met at Auburn 12 years ago, we have attended home games since we got married every fall and just love Auburn. The Auburn creed says it all...I believe in AUBURN and LOVE it!!!

Our first born turned FOUR on December 21, 2010. I cannot believe how much time flies. I remember very clearly the day that he was born. It was an AMAZING day. God is great and has blessed us with the sweetest little boy. We are so thankful for his sweet nature and loving heart. He loves preschool, church and to play outside. He is teaching his little brother lots of things (both good and bad) and loves being the BIG brother. We look foward to your "Firefighter" party in January! Happy 4th Birthday, Brock! On October 1, 2010, Braden turned ONE!!! We celebrated with a "Lil' Quarterback" themed party at our home. We had a great time playing outside, eating BBQ and opening presents. We are so thankful for all of our famliy and friends that came to celebrate with us. Braden is such a little blessing in our life. He is the happiest baby and loves to play. Beach 2010

We just returned from two weeks at the beach. We had a great time! The first week we spent with Granna & G-daddy Greg in Orange Beach and the second week we were in Destin with Mimi and GaGa. The kids had a great time and enjoyed playing in the water and sand. Here are just a few pics from our trip...enjoy!

Once again, I have fallen way behind in my blogging. Life with two little boys is just busy! There is no other excuse than I just do not have time. Hopefully, I will do better and keep you up to date a little better : ) I took the boys to have their Easter pictures made in Cedartown two weeks ago. There was a live lamb and rabbit available for the pics. Brock talked about it for days but when we got there it was a different story. He was so scared that he had to have his pic made with the fake bunny. Braden did pretty good. He just does not know that he is supposed to smile for the camera yet. It's been a while...

Sorry that it has been so long since I have updated the Blog. With a 3 year old and 3 month old, I really do not have time for anything : ) I would not trade this time for anything in the world so things like updating the blog, reading, etc. are just not in the daily agenda. Many things have happened since I last update in November. Braden is growing like a weed (already over 17 pounds), we celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas, we had Brock's 3rd Birthday party and many things in between. I will try to post pictures of these things in the new few posts. There is no way that I can upload all pics to the blog but if you are on Facebook and are not my friend then send me a friend request. I usually upload lots of pics to that. I hope that you are all doing well and having a wonderful 2010 so far.

Brad and I have been trying to teach Brock to say the blessing every time that we sit down to eat. He is really good about it however in his little mind he thinks that we are saying it because our food is hot. We have to work on that : ) If his food is not hot then he says that we do not need to say it. If his food is hot then he will say "blessing". This morning he was having pancakes for breakfast and he wanted to say his blessing. This is what he said "God is good all the time, Bye". I thought that was too funny! Instead of Amen, he said Bye. : )

Since we are talking about blessings, our newest little blessing Braden will be here soon. Two weeks until the due date so hopefully we will meet him soon. We are so excited!

Busy Bee

Yesterday Brock started his second year at the Early Learning Center at First Baptist Douglasville. He goes two days a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am till noon. This year he is in the Busy Bee class (older 2 year olds). He had a great first day and he is already asking to go back to school. I am so glad that he likes it. It gives him the opportunity to play with other children while also learning. Here is a picture from his first day on the playground.

Brad, Brock and I are very blessed to have a church that we really like. We attend Midway Macedonia here in Villa Rica and have been members there since 2004. We are part of a Life Group that we also really like. Our pastor, Todd, says that the purpose of a Life Group is to celebrate life together. This past Sunday, our group was nice enough to give us a Baby Shower for little Braden. We were blessed with lots of nice things and we are grateful for all of them. Thanks to everyone in our group for making it so special!

Nashville

This past weekend Brad and I took a little trip to Nashville. My dad and step-mom gave us a gift certificate for Christmas to Opryland so we decided to use it before little Braden arrives. We went on Friday and came back on Sunday. We spent Friday at Opry Mills shopping and riding the Delta Riverboats inside Opryland. On Saturday we went downtown to The Ryman Auditorium and the Country Music Hall of Fame. That night we went to the Grand Old Opry. Many guests were there but my favorite was Vince Gill (2nd photo below) and Josh Turner (1st photo below). I love Vince Gill so it was a treat to get to see him : ) Sunday we just had breakfast then headed to pick up Brock. Part of the Christmas gift was for my dad (Pop) and my step-mom (Dee) to keep Brock. They had a great time together. Thanks for the trip, we had a GREAT time!

Tonight Brad, Brock and I went to the Hot Air Balloon Festival here in Villa Rica. I thought that Brock would really like it since he loves balloons! He had the best time : ) We got to see them blowing up the balloons, taking people on rides, etc. We decided that Brock was too young to ride in one but maybe next year. We told him that we would bring him and Braden next year and Brock said that Braden would be scared...he is already looking out for his little brother. So sweet!

This past Saturday night, I had some of my high school friends over for a Get Together. It had been a long time since I had seen some of them. We graduated from Cedartown High in 1997...I cannot believe it has been that long! Since then, we have all gone to different colleges, gotten married, moved, and some even have children. Braden's Room

We have been working on Braden's room for a while now. We had to repaint the office which was orange (because it was our Auburn room) to make it the nursery. Brad painted it blue and it looks really good. I was kind of nervous about having a blue room but it turned out great. The black furniture came in and Brad put all of it together. It is now in the nursery and looks nice with the blue walls. We still have a little decorating to do but here are some pictures of what we have so far. It won't be long until little Braden is here to sleep in his room : )

This is the theme of the nursery. It took me forever to find this canvas on Ebay and I am so excited that I finally did!

This is Braden's Jenny Lind crib. Also, the crib set that I found for such a great deal (see previosu post). I decided to do something a little different with his name so I hung the letters with gingham ribbon on a coat rack.

This is the toy bench that I found at Hobby Lobby and the cheap ($2.90) curtains that actually match the bedding that I found on clearance at Babies R Us.

Here is the Jenny Lind changing table. It still needs a cover and baskets but those are coming soon!

This is the chest that still needs a lamp, etc. I want to put a wall quote above this...any suggestions on where to find one?

I am still looking for the musical mobile, and extra gingham crib sheet and possibly the rug. If you come across it (since it is discontinued), please let me know : )

Birthday Celebration at the Lake

This past Sunday we went down to my dad's house on Lake Weiss to celebrate his birthday and also Brad's birthday. Happy Birthday to Brad on Thursday and Happy Birthday to Pop on Friday...we hope that you have a great day! We had lunch and then spent time down at the boat house fishing and then enjoyed a boat ride. Brock, Olivia, and Brad all caught fish (or as Brock would say "shish"). Nanny and Allen enjoyed sitting on the dock while the rest of us went on a boat ride. We had a great time and here are some pictures to show it!

Panama City Beach

As mentioned in a previous post, we went to the beach with my family in June. We had a great time and the weather was perfect the whole week. We spent lots of time at the beach and the pool. Brock loved playing in the pool and jumping into the water. He is not afraid of the water at all. He also liked riding in his boat in the ocean and playing in the sand with cousin Olivia. Several nights we went to the kiddie park and let Brock & Olivia ride rides. They had a blast! Thanks Granna and G'daddy Greg for the trip...it was great!

Wedding Weekend

This weekend my cousin Anna got married. Brock was the little ring bearer and he was so cute! We had a great time! The Rehearsal Dinner was at the Rome Braves Game. It was so much fun! Brock had a blast at this first baseball game and he even got a foul ball : )

Brock looked great in his tux for the wedding and had a blast at the Reception and even did a little dancing (he got his moves from his dad!) I hope that you had a great 4th of July.

Brock is 2.5!!!

On June 21st, the little man turned two and a half! I cannot believe it. He is such a sweet and loving little boy...however he has certainly hit the terrible twos! He went to the doctor this week for his 30 month wellness visit. Everything was great! He weighed in at 27.5 pounds (23%) and was 36 inches tall (53%). The doctor was glad that he was talking in sentences, able to climb, knew his colors, etc. The next thing that we have to work on is potty training. I tried this the first of June and it did not go too well. We will try again next week : ) Time is flying by and they do not stay little long.

On another note...we went to the beach last week and I need to post some pics. However my computer crashed and I lost everything. I finally got a new computer so hopefully soon I will post some beach pictures. Stay tuned...

Of course we had to use a name that starts with a "Br" like the rest of us or he would feel left out. (This means that I will have to change the name of the blog soon...any ideas?)

We are so excited about this little addition come to our family in September! We liked this name when Brock was born but we knew that we wanted to use Brock because it was my maiden name. We took some time deciding on how to spell Braden since there are multiple ways. We chose this spelling because it has "Brad" as part of it. James is my grandfather's name. He adores Brock and I know that he will love Braden also. Every one else in my family seems to have girls so boys names are easy to pick : )

We are off to the beach tomorrow with my family so we will update with pictures when we return!

Destin, Florida

This past week we went to the beach with Brad's family. We were gone Tuesday until Sunday. We went to Destin, FL and stayed at Silver Beach Resort. It was very nice and we had a great time. Brock got to do lots of swimming in the pool and he also got to play a lot at the beach. He had fun playing with his cousins (Wilson, Emery, & Bryggen). 7th Anniversary

Today Brad and I will have been married for 7 years! Can you believe that? Time flies! We have been together since October 1998, got engaged in August 2001, then married in June 2002. Since then, we have bought a house in Villa Rica, Georgia (where we have been since the wedding), both completed our Master's degrees, joined a church that we both love, met some wonderful friends, had a precious baby boy, Brock, in December of 2006 and are expecting our 2nd little boy in September 2009. WOW! Not to mention time that we have got to spend together as a couple. This season of our life is very busy but we are making some really great memories. We look forward to many more years to come!

We have been trying to decide what theme to use in the baby's room. I sold all of Brock's stuff on Ebay so we have to get new bedding. (Every baby should get their own anyways, right?) I thought that I wanted to use blue & brown turtles called Mod Turtle. I had liked it for a long time. Then I changed my mind and wanted to use sailboats. I looked and really could not find any sailboat pattern that I liked other than Pottery Barn Kids and that was just too expensive. So, here is what we are going to use...

I love it! It is called Farm Friends by Global Baby. It is discontinued so I will have to find pieces that I need on Ebay. However, I was at Marshalls on Saturday and saw the 4 piece crib set. I did not buy it then but yesterday went back and it was on clearance for $20...WOW! What a deal! We are going to use black furniture (which we wanted to use all along) and accessorize with black gingham. It is going to be so cute, I cannot wait! We will post pics of the Nursery when we get it all done which will be months from now but at least we have a theme : )

The past two days I have spent some time at the Sewing/Embroidery machine. It is a Brother Disney SE-270D. There have been many ups and downs the past two days but finally I was able to get some things finished that look half way decent. I am still learning...

4th Surgery

On Friday, Brock had his 4th laser treatment on his face. He has not had a treatment since November so we were really excited to get this one in. Since he is older we were concerned that it might be a little harder but he did great and did not ask that many questions. Everything went great and he is on the mend. It takes about a week for all the red dots to go away but he has not skipped a beat with playing. Here is the cute little guy in his hospital gown and hat : )

On Wednesday, Brock had his last day of school in the Cuddly Cow class. He has had a great time this year! He has learned a lot and made some really sweet friends. Today Brock and I had a pretty uneventful day. We went to the gym this morning, played inside this afternoon, read books, and had a little nap. Brock got a ball pit for his birthday so that is what we played with the most today (see pics below). He loves playing in it. However, balls go all over the house and it is sometimes a pain to pick them all up. Since he loves it so much, we will just deal with it : ) After Brad got home, we went out to play. Brock loves cutting the grass with his bubble mower and today he wanted to wear with Fire Chief hat. He is such a happier little guy when he is outside so we try to get outside play time in often. Playdate with Friends

On Friday, Brock and I had a play date with friends. It had been raining all week long so it was so nice to be able to get outside and play. Our friends Megan & McKenzie and Cassie & Braylen came over for play time and lunch. We had so much fun! The kids played inside for a while and then we headed outside. They loved playing on the swing set and with all the outdoor toys. We then came in for lunch. After that it was time for naps so our friends left us. Thanks for coming to play...we had a blast!

It's a BOY

Today Brad and I went for the ultrasound to find out what we were having. Brad totally thought that is was going to be a girl and Brock wanted a "gurl" too. However, God wanted us to have another little boy and that is totally fine with me : ) We have so much boy stuff that can be re-used and Brock needs a little friend to play with. We are so excited about this new addition to our little family. He will join us around September 28th. We will post a name when we decide for sure. Keep little Slocumb in your prayers until he joins us : )

Already an Overprotective Mom???

Today Brock and I were at the mall trying to waste time until Brad got off work. I had a coupon at Gymboree so we decided to stop in there and look. Brock loves to go in there because they have kiddie chairs and a TV to entertain children while parents shop. I let Brock out of the stroller and he walked over to the blue chair. There were two little girls (probably 3 and 5) already in the other two chairs...who knows where their mom was? Brock walked over, sat down, and just looked around the store. He was precious : ) Then I heard the younger girl talking and I looked around to see her in Brock's face saying "Do you want your sippy cup" in a sassy little voice. I thought...I know that she is not making fun of him! She continued to talk to him like that while he just sat. I felt so sorry for him. He had no idea that she was being ugly, but I did and I did not like it. I walked over to get Brock away from the little brats! The younger girl then looked at me and said "I stepped on his toe". I looked her straight in the face and said in a stern voice "Then you need to apologize to him". I was so mad! Again, who knows where the mom was but I hope that she heard the conversation. Anyways...this just upset me today because I thought, No one is going to make fun of my little boy : )

Sorry for the delay in updating the blog...time is just flying by and we have been so busy. Below is what all has been going on since the last post in February. Hopefully I will get better at updating and keeping everyone up to date on what is going on with us.

We hope that all of our mothers and everyone that is a mother has a wonderful Mother's Day on Sunday. Mother's are very special and we appreciate everything that they do for us : )

A couple of weeks ago we had a fun play date with Matthew. We went to the Little Bears Indoor Playground in Kennesaw. It was great! Beach Weekend

In mid April we were able to take a long weekend trip to the Beach. It was wonderful! Thanks to Mimi and Gaga for keeping Brock for us and allowing us to stay at Club Intrawest : ) We took our good friends, Megan & Jason, and had a blast! It was nice to get away. We did not have to keep a schedule and we go to do whatever we wanted! It was windy on the beach but we sat out on the beach for two days and just enjoyed ourselves. The third day we went Outlet shopping...fun, fun, fun!

Disney World 2009

We took a family vacation to Disney World March 21-28. We had a blast! It was so nice to get away just the three of us. Brock was excellent almost the whole time and it was just a wonderful vacation : )

We went to Magic Kingdom several days, Epcot (not much there for a toddler), Hollywood Studios, Downtown Disney and Animal Kingdom. Our favorite of course was Magic Kingdom but Animal Kingdom was a close second. We got to have several meals with the characters and Brock loved this. Well, he did not like the first meal but after that he LOVED it! He wanted all the characters to sign his autograph book and to give them all high five. He loved to see all the characters in the parades. He would wave at them and blow them kisses. It was so cute! We were all exhausted at the end of the day but it was all worth it! The news is out and we are so excited....

Brock is going to be a Big Brother on September 28, 2009!!!!

We had our first doctor's visit this past Wednesday and everything looks good. Baby Slocumb #2 has a great heartbeat and looks great. I do not really have morning sickness just feeling very sick in the late afternoon. Also, the terrible heartburn is already back (no fun!). Other than that, we are doing great. Next step is to get Brock potty trained by September so that we are not buying diapers for two.

We can't wait!!!!

It has been so long since I have blogged! About a month has gone by and I am just now finding time to sit down and fill you in on what has been going on.

1) Brock is still going to school on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 till noon. I am teaching a course this quarter at WCTC from 8 am till 10:15 am on those same two days. It is working out great and Brad gets to take Brock to school in the mornings and then I get to pick him up. He LOVES school, or as he calls it church. He is talking more and learning more and I am excited that he likes it so much.

2) Haircut~ Brock got his first official haircut on Jan. 23. We had taken him before to get his hair trimmed but we left all the curls because everyone wanted us to. This time we got it all cut off. It is adorable! He looks so much older and like a little boy instead of a baby. He was great during the haircut. He sat in the chair like a big boy and did everything that the lady asked him to do.

3) Olivia's 1st Birthday!!! On Jan. 22 my niece turned ONE!!! I cannot believe that she is already one. Time flies... We had a great time at the party and she dug right into her cake and her gifts. Brock told everyone 'Thank You" for Olivia since she cannot talk yet : ) Happy First Birthday sweet girl...we love you!

4) Toddler Bed~ We converted Brock's crib to a toddler bed about a week ago. At night he is doing great. Nap time, however, is a different story. He will not go to sleep in there! He gets up and plays. Any suggestions???? He seems to love the bed and loves to jump on it but there is just something about taking a nap in it that he does not like. Hopefully it will be better or I might have to get back out the pack-n-play for nap time!

We hope that you are all doing great! Hopefully I will update more often but this quarter is extremely busy with teaching two classes and tutoring. Also, my computer is still terribly slow so that I why I have not uploaded pics in a while. Hopefully soon...

Brock's Two Year Check-up

Yesterday, I took Brock to the pediatrician for his 2 year wellness check. It is a little late but with the holidays we are just getting around to going. Let me begin my saying that he was so good. Usually he gets a little antsy but he acted great. Brad had to work and was not able to go with me so I was a little nervous about going alone but it turned out fine. I love the office that we go to. It is very child friendly and they have a train track around the top of the wall and you can see the train go through the office on the track. Brock loves this! It is really cool even for us adults : ) They are also always on time and for children that is a big deal. The little guy weighs 26.9 pounds (32%), is 34.25 inches long (47%) and his head circumference is 19.25 (51%). The doctor said that he is doing great. She could actually understand what Brock was saying and she was really impressed. She said that she could not understand most 2 year olds so that made me proud! She said that everything checked out great and he was right on target for his age. Brock is such a sweet little boy (most of the time) and we have truly been blessed. We are looking forward to all the years to come and all the memories that lie ahead. We love you, Brock!

Brad's brother Mike and his wife Heidi welcomed their first born on Monday, December 29th. Sara Bryggen Slocumb was 7 lbs 5 oz and 19.5 inches long. She is adorable! Brad and I went to see her yesterday in Auburn and she is so sweet. Congrats Mike & Heidi!!!

We had a wonderful Christmas! We spent time with all of our families and it was really nice. We enjoyed visiting, opening gifts, eating and the spirit of Christmas. We started our Christmas travel on Saturday the 20th at my dad & step mom's house (Brock calls them Pop & Dee). They live on Lake Weiss in Centre, Alabama. On Tuesday night, we traveled to Auburn to see Brad's parents (Mimi & Gaga). We spent the night and had Christmas with Mimi, Gaga, Aunt Heidi, Uncle Mike, Uncle Robert, Auntie Jen, and cousins Wilson & Emery. We came home late on Christmas Eve night. On Christmas morning we had "Santa" here at our house and Brad cooked breakfast and read the Christmas story. Then we hit the road to Rockmart where my mom & step dad live (Granna & Grandaddy). We had Christmas lunch there with my grandmama, grandaddy, aunt Susan, uncle Steve, cousin Taryn, sister Brandi, brother in law Mike, niece Olivia, mom & step dad. After lunch we headed to Cedartown for our last stop of the day. We had Christmas dinner at my Nanny's house with my dad, step mom Dinah, aunt Opal, uncle Phil, cousins Mary, Matt, Maris & Anna, Brandi, Mike, Olivia, Nanny & Allen. At last we made our trip home to Villa Rica.

Christmas is such a special time of the year. The birth of baby Jesus means something special to each of us but sometimes in all the hustle and bustle we loose sight of that. We should all be thankful for Jesus and what he has done for us. Brad, Brock and I are truly blessed beyond measure and thankful for each of you : )

Brock turned 2 on Sunday, December 21...can you believe it? I cannot believe that he is already that old : ) It seems like yesterday that God blessed us with our sweet little boy named Brock. He is such a special little guy to us and bring us so much joy and laughter. He is constantly changing and learning new things. We celebrated with a Monkey themed party and had a really good time. One day last week I decided that Brock and I would make our first Gingerbread House together. I had never made one so I had no idea that it took so long. I just thought that we could put it together and decorate it and be done. Wrong! You have to put sides together and wait. Then put the roof on and wait. Then you can finally decorate it. By then you are tired : ) Anyway we finally finished and here is Brock with the Gingerbread House the next day.

Today, Brock had his Christmas Party at school. They started the party by shaking bells to the song "Jingle Bells". Well, that was the plan but most of the children ran to their mom's and did not participate, including Brock. Ms. Morgan told me that he had been excited about it all morning and then he got really shy. They had made several art projects that were really cute and had made ornaments for the tree. They all had a great time eating their snacks and playing.

3) Spend the night party

This past Saturday night, we had the pleasure of keeping my niece Olivia overnight. Brock and Olivia had the best time! They played all afternoon, took a bath and splashed up a storm, slept all night long and then played again on Sunday. They were so good and we really enjoyed having her over to spend the night : ) Here are some pics of them playing.

4) Life Group Christmas Party

Sunday night we had our Life Group Christmas party. We decided this year to go out to dinner (Provino's) so that no one had to clean their house and cook. It was a really nice time just sitting and chatting with everyone. We have a wonderful group that is continuing to grow and and we are so excited to be part of it!

5) Brock's Birthday Party at School

Today Brock got to celebrate his 2nd Birthday at school. He was in charge of bringing cupcakes for his special day. He was so excited and talked about "cake" for two days. I let him pick out the kind that he wanted to make and he thought that he was something special. His teacher said that he asked all morning long when they were going to get to have "snack, cake". Last Saturday we went to Stone Mountain with our friends Megan, Jason, & McKenzie. It was really cold but we had a great time! We got the see The Polar Express in 4-D, ride the train (Brock's favorite), eat funnel cakes and see the Christmas lights. We really enjoyed it and here are some pics from the day.

Sorry I have been really bad at blogging lately : ( As I said before, our computer is really slow so it gets really frustrating trying to do something on it. I am updating tonight while my college class is taking a test because this computer is much faster : )

Brock is back at school this week and he loves it! His teacher told me that he is talking much more and I am so proud of him. She said he says "It's my turn" all the time. He is also saying "I'll do it" and is becoming a very independent little boy. He loves the Christmas tree and says "WOW" when it lights up. Brad got him a train to go around the tree and he loves playing with the "Choo Choo" every minute. He also has a little tree in his room that he likes to take the ornaments off of. We are trying to teach him to look and not touch. So now he walks up to the tree and says "No touch" but "kiss". We wants to kiss all the ornaments instead of touching them....really cute : ) We spent Thanksgiving in Auburn with Brad's family. We had a good time but we did not enjoy the Auburn/Alabama game too much, oh well one in seven is not too bad. However, I am very sad that Tubbs is leaving Auburn. He has been the coach every since Brad and I started going to the games together....sad : ( I think that he is a great guy and I hope that he finds another school that treats him well. We are heading to Stone Mountain this weekend to see all the Christmas stuff with our friends Megan, Jason & McKenzie so we are so excited!!!! I hope that you have a great week!!!

Potty

I thought that I would share this funny story with you.....

Today Brock and I went to the Gym. After working out, I went into the Nursery to pick him up but did not see him anywhere. I asked Mrs. Pam where Brock was and she said that he was in the restroom. I looked very puzzled??? She said he wanted to go "potty" so Miss Kelsey took him in the restroom. I told her that he was not at all potty trained and she just laughed. When the door opened, Brock came running out saying "I did it, I did it". I looked at Kelsey and she just shook her head "no". I thought that this was hilarious!!! I do not know what Brock thought that he did but he was so proud. He is getting a potty for Christmas so maybe he is ready...who knows : )

It's been a while....

Sorry that it has been a while since I have last blogged. Our computer is having some trouble and it takes FOREVER to download pictures so....that is why you have not heard from us in a while. Tonight I have a little time to wait on this slow computer so I will update you on what has been going on : )

Last Friday, Nov. 14, Brock had his 3rd surgery on his face. He is such a big boy and does not seem to mind going to the hospital at all. I am glad that he is not scared since we have about 5 more of these treatments. We are usually at Egleston about 4 hours or so. He gets to wear this cute little hospital gown and hat. He loves it! Also, this time he got to put an armband on his stuffed tiger like him. He thought that was really neat. It will be a week tomorrow and his face is going down. It is no longer swollen but still has some red marks. He is such a little trooper!!

Brock had to miss nursery school this week because of his face but today he got to have a play date with Matthew. Matthew is just 5 months old but they really liked looking at each other and trying to play. I really enjoyed spending time with Jennie and having "adult" conversation : )

That's about it....We did have someone look at out house last Saturday but this is the response that we got, "they liked it but are going to keep looking". To me, this is just a nice way of saying "No, we are not interested". Oh well, hopefully someone will come along soon and just love it. Until then, we are going to put up Christmas decorations this weekend and get in the Christmas spirit : )

Busy Weekend

This past weekend we were busy, busy. On Friday I took Brock to Cedartown to visit Granna, Memama, Great Grandaddy, Nanny & Allen. He then went to spend the night with Pop and Dee. My sister Brandi, my mom and I went to Christmas Village in Birmingham that afternoon. We love going to the craft show to get neat gifts for people and also ideas on how to make things ourselves. They have lots of cute stuff for girls but not as much for boys...of course. We did manage to spend all our money : ) On Saturday, Brad had to work half a day and I went shopping...all alone. It was so nice. After lunch, we met Pop & Dee to pick up Brock, then headed to Auburn. We missed the Homecoming game but got there just in time for Kim's Surprise Birthday Party at Cock of the Walk. It was lots of fun and great see to all our friends. On Sunday, we went to a baby shower for Mike and Heidi. Baby Bryggen will be born the end of December and we are so excited. So as you can see, we had a very busy weekend. Here are some pics from the party. We hope that you had a great weekend too!

So if you are wondering what Brock does while I am cooking dinner...here it is! Today he decided to get into his drawer with his hats and he comes out with his hat on backwards or as Brad calls it, his rally cap. Then he goes into my closet and comes out with my flip flops on (he actaully got them on the right feet today). Finally he gets into the kitchen cabinets and gets an oven mit out. Put it all together and this is what you get.... : )

It has been so nice outside this week that Brock and I decided to rake leaves on Monday afternoon. He is such a big help! He has his own rake and he had the best time. Here are some pics of the little man helping mom!

Trunk-A-Treat

Tonight our church had it's annual Trunk-A-Treat. It was so much fun! We decorated our cars and gave out candy with our Life Group. Midway anticipates 4,000-5,000 people each year for this community outreach. I certainly think that we had at least that many people. It was great!! Brock loved giving out candy to all the little children. He started the night as a little Pirate but when it started to get cold, he turned into a skunk. I decided this afternoon that he needed something a little warmer and this was all I could find on sale today. It was cute enough and served its purpose. We had a great day and we hope that you had a great Halloween!!

Fall Party

Today Brock had his Fall Party at school. This was the first party of the year in the Cuddly Cow class. He has eight little boys and girls in his class. It was nice to get to meet and talk to the other parents. The children were all so cute. They just sat at the table in their assigned seats and ate their food. Brock ate lots of Cheetos!!! They were all excited to see their parents and showed us all the toys in the room. Brock loves school and wants to go everyday to play (hopefully he is learning too!).

This past Saturday, Brock and I went to one of his little friend's Birthday Party. It was such a nice day and the kids had a great time. It was a Cowboy theme party and it was at their barn at their house. They had lots of toys to play with, an inflatable thing to jump in, pony rides, and even a hayride. Night, Night Giraffe

Brock has recently learned that if you go around and kiss all your animals in your room then you get to stay up longer. He is too smart for his own good! He starts walking to bed and has to first stop at his night light and give the giraffe a kiss. Then he goes to the stuffed giraffe sitting in the rocking chair and gives him a kiss. Then he needs to kiss his books. After that he decides that he needs more milk. He is already working the system...but Brad & I have caught on. It is so cute watching him kiss all the giraffes in his room that you cannot get mad at him. Finally, we gets into bed and talks for about 10-15 minutes then he is off to sleep......

For Sale

After much thought, Brad and I decided to put our house on the market this week. We have been trying to decide if we should just enclose our screen porch and make it a play room or try to find a bigger house. We decided that we would put it up for sale for 3 months and just see what happens. We would love to find a house right now since the market is bad and we could get a good deal on a bigger house however that means that we will not get much for ours in return in this terrible housing market. We are hopeful that someone will come along and our house will be perfect for them. Tonight we met with the realtor and tomorrow we will have a sign in the yard "For Sale". If you know of anyone that is interested in buying a house in Mirror Lake (Villa Rica), please send them our way : ) The realtor suggested that I get rid of some things for now to make rooms look bigger and more of a generic home. Now my mission is to pack up or throw out things that we do not use or need. (This will also get Brad to clean his closet..haha). Please pray for us during this time. It is hard to keep a clean house with a 22 month old (he turned 22 months today...crazy!!) God is in control and he will guide us through this process.

Pumpkin Patch

Today we decided to take Brock to a pumpkin patch. Since he loves being outside, we knew that he would have a blast. It was such a beautiful Fall day and perfect for being outside. We first started with the animals. Brock was really interested in looking at the goats, cow, sheep, pigs, and turkey. He kept yelling "goggle gobble" to the turkey...it was so funny! We then went on a hayride to the pumpkin patch. Brock seemed to enjoy that. We got to the pumpkin patch and first looked at all the little pumpkins. Brock got to pick out his very own. We then walked over to the bigger pumpkins and he kept wanting to pick them up but they were a little too big. He walked all over the patch and then we finally decided on a family pumpkin to go with Brock's little pumpkin. We had a great time and here are some pictures from our day. Happy Fall!!!

The Big 3-0

Yesterday, I turned the big 3-0!!! It just does not seem like I should be 30. I still feel like a young girl...well, I guess that I still am compared to some people : ). Turning 30 is not really bothering me. I am just so happy to be turning another year older, living a healthy life and to have such wonderful family and friends. Thanks to all of you who called, emailed or sent cards yesterday. It meant the world to me!! Birthdays are special because they are a celebration of you!! Other holidays, everyone gets to celebrate but your birthday is all about you...so thanks to those who made it special!

On another note, Brock's 3rd laser treatment on his face got scheduled today for Friday, November 14th at 7:30 a.m. Please say a little prayer for him that everything goes as well as it has in the past. Three down...four to go...we hope : ).

Play Date

This weekend we went to Auburn for another poor performance from the Tigers (we have just decided that they are bad this year and there is nothing that we can do about it). However, it was a fun time and we got to visit with family and friends. We left Brock with a babysitter again. He loved Abbie the last time that she kept him so this time he got to play with his girlfriend Caroline too. Below are some pictures of them playing together. They had the best time and she said that they played the whole time we were gone to the game. It took a while for Brock to open up but once he did, he went straight in for the kiss. It was so funny! As they continue to grow, they are going to have so much fun together.

After the game, Brock got to play with his cousins, Wilson & Emery. They had the best time and Brock got so excited and wound up...it so hilarious. We have never really seen him act like that but you could tell that he was having a great time playing with Wilson. They are going to get into trouble when they grow up, I do believe. Report Card

Yesterday, Brock got his first "report card" from school. I had no idea that he would get a "report card" at this age. However, he did and he got all A's. Here is what the report said:

We are so proud of him! He loves going to school...we just hope that he still loves school when he gets older : )

1st Haircut

This past weekend we took Brock to have his first haircut. I have been wanting to get it trimmed up since he had some strands that would not do anything but stick straight up. Several people tried to talk me out of cutting his hair because they did not want me to get his curls cut off. Well, they won. When we got to "Snip Its" for his haircut, I chickened out. I just got them to trim his bangs, around his ears and around the back of his neck. Needless to say, you cannot tell that I got it cut at all. I had to get on the floor to try and find some hair to save. Brad says all that we did is waste $12. Oh well, it was fun and for the most part he was good. He did not like the idea of the razor so she only used scissors. Here are some pictures from the big day.

Brock's favorite show right now is Barney. We watch it over and over all day long thanks to On Demand. I know that some people think that babies should not watch TV until they are two. Oh well! It is so fun to watch Brock try to dance with them. He is also learning words from the show. This picture is of Brock watching Barney this morning. What he is doing, I do not know : ). He loves to climb in this toy box and play....the funny things that kids do.

Today, Brock and I went to meet his new 2nd cousin, Maris Kate. She was born in August but this is the first time that we have got to meet her. They live in Boone, NC. Mary & Matt are her parents. Mary is my first cousin. She is so little! You forget how little they are because they grow up so fast. Brock enjoyed looking at her and giving her kisses...how sweet!

When we got home from Cedartown visiting, I did a few more projects on the embroidery machine. I spent about 3 1/2 hours working on these few things. Hopefully I will get faster with time...we will see!

I used to be good at updating the blog but it seems lately that it is getting harder and harder to find time to sit down and make a post. Our computer has caught some virus or something and is extremely slow. So every time that I sit to get on the computer I usually get frustrated because it takes so long for any thing to happen and uploading pictures right now takes forever. Anyways, here is what has been going on.....

Brock turned 21 months old last weekend. I cannot believe that he is getting so big. You can tell that he is growing up. He plays better, he is trying to talk more, he asks "What's this?" all the time, he understands more of what you are saying and asking, and he is growing taller. My favorite thing right now is when he wakes up in the morning he does not cry anymore, he yells "mom", "mom" until I go and get him. I love it!!! He is such a loving little boy. He gives hugs and kisses all the time and loves to crawl up in your lap and just sit for a few minutes. Don't get me wrong, he is bad too. He is a wild little boy who loves to throw things and run around. It is just taking some getting used to since I have always been around girls. He is truly a little blessing in our life.

As for Brad and myself, we are doing great. Brad is working hard as always and watching lots of football. I am trying to embroider more and catch up on some scrapbooking. Time is just hard to find these days. It seems like it is 9:00 at night before you now it and the day is gone. Hopefully things will settle down when we are not traveling every weekend. Gas also is a huge problem in our area so staying home is becoming more common. Some places you have to wait in line 30 minutes or so and can only get $20 worth of gas. When will this problem stop? My Hobby

At Christmas, I got a sewing/embroidery machine. I have been trying since then to make some "cute" stuff. When I was pregnant with Brock, I loved getting stuff with his name on it. So I decided that I was going to learn to make it myself. Well, it has been much harder than I expected. I am doing pretty good with burb cloths. I am trying new things with them but now I want to make some clothes. My first shirt, a tiger paw, was horrible!!! I can only let Brock play it in at home. My new shirt, a football, turned out okay. It is just a little off center. My third shirt, a ghost, is alright but just a little low on the shirt. Hopefully one day I will get it right without going broke first! The bib with the "B" turned out pretty good. It is my for future niece, Bryggen, who is due in January. The "Hey Diddle Diddle" burb cloth is also pretty good, I just need to sew a ribbon on it. These are the latest things that I have done. I just do not have much spare time to sit and work on it. It is fun and I enjoy doing it most of the time (when my machine is working right). I would love to hear from others that have this interest too. If you have any suggestions, I welcome them!!!!!

This weekend we went to Auburn for two reasons: (1) the Auburn/LSU game and (2) for Wilson's 3rd Birthday party. The game was a really good game. I expected us to get blown away because our offense if horrible. However, it was actually a really good game and we we did not get beat that bad. Auburn needs a lot of practice this season but I am glad that they hung in there on Saturday and kept the game close. Maybe one day Auburn can recruit a quarterback that is good...we can only hope : ). On Sunday, we helped Wilson, our nephew, celebrate his 3rd Birthday. He had a Thomas the Train party at a park in Opelika. There is a train that you can ride and it was great! The kids loved that and playing on the playground. We had a lot of fun!!! This week was supposed to be full of plans with family, friends and fun. However, it took a turn for the worse on Wednesday when I got a virus. I will spare the details but finally today I am feeling a little better. Brad went to Chicago (on a business trip) and came down with the same thing. So he did not have fun either. Thankfully my mom came and got Brock on Wednesday and kept him until today. He somehow missed the virus and I am so glad. He had a great time playing with Granna, Grandaddy Greg, Nanny, Allen, Pop, Dee, Memama and Great-grandaddy. I am so thankful that they all got to spend time with him and entertain him while I was here at home sick and Brad was sick in Chicago. Hopefully we are on the mend and everything will be back to normal tomorrow. We are heading to Auburn for what we hope is a football game. If the Tigers play like they did last week, it will not be much of a game. However, I hope that they have got it together and we will get to roll Toomer's...we will see???? Have a great weekend : )

End of the Week Review

Sorry for the lack of posts latley. We are just busy (but I do not really know doing what). Time just flies by! Brock went to school two days this week and loved it! He did not cry either day and was smiling when we walked in and when I picked him up. I again enjoyed my time while he was at school. I wrapped up teaching for the quarter this week and just waiting to give my final exams next week. We actaully get to stay home this weekend instead of traveling to Auburn so that will be nice. We are on the hunt for a good deal on a new home so we are going out and about tomorrow looking. We like our neighborhood but we just need more space. Plus with all the foreclosures right now, we hope to find a good deal in a good school district. We have nursery duty on Saturday night but then we will be watching the Auburn Tigers play that night. We have F.A.N. Day at chruch on Sunday so we are looking forward to tailgating with our Life Group and watching some flag football. We hope that you have a great weekend!!!

War Eagle!!

We took Brock again this weekend to the Auburn game. It was very HOT!!! We stood in the shade for the game so that Brock would not get as hot as sitting in the sun. He took about a 30 minute nap (how, I do not know) and then was ready to cheer on the Tigers!! We decided to leave at half time since it was so hot. We are glad that the Tigers won but they better get it together before the SEC games start (we are not looking so good so far this season). War Eagle!!

In my spare time (ha ha, who has spare time??)......

I am still trying to work on my sewing and embroidering. Here is my first applique of a tiger paw. I am going to put it on a shirt for Brock this week. I will let you know how it turns out.

First Day of "School"

Today Brock started "school". He is going to the Early Learning Center at First Baptist Douglasville on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 am till noon. He is in the Cuddly Cow class and there are 8 little boys & girls in his class. He was such a big boy this morning while getting ready and on the way but when we got there things changed a little. He walked inside the church like a big boy but as we got closer to his classroom he started wanting me to pick him up. When we got to the classroom door he started crying. His teacher came to the door and got him and I am sure that he stopped crying soon thereafter. While Brock was at school, I got to enjoy shopping alone for a couple of hours. When I picked Brock up he was so tired. He could hardly stay awake until we got home to have lunch. I asked him several questions about school : Did you like school today? Did you like your teachers? Did you have a snack? Did you color? Did you play outside? His answer to all of these questions was NO! I then asked him "Do you know what mommy is asking you? and he said NO! His favorite word right now is NO so I am sure that he really did have a great time today and I know that he is going to love playing with the other little kids this year.

Meet the Teachers

Last Thursday night, Brad and I went to Brock's Parent Orientation for his little school that he will start next Wednesday. We got to meet his teachers and see where and what he will be doing at "school". Today, I took Brock to meet his teachers. Ms. Morgan and Mrs. Robinson are going to be teaching Brock at the Early Learning Center at First Baptist Douglasville this year. He will be going on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 -12. I am so excited for him. Pretty much they just play and have snacks. There are 8 little boys and girls in his class. I really think that this will be good for him since he usually only gets to play with mommy. I am excited too because I will get a little time to run errands or do whatever I want for 3 hours, 2 days a week....yeah!! I will let you know how the first day goes next week.

Weekend Fun

On Friday night Brock went to spend the night with Granna & Grandaddy Greg. They went out to dinner and then spent lots of time playing. I know that Brock probably wore them out! When I went to pick him on Saturday, they were playing in a "house". Granna had brought a big box home from work and had cut some "windows" in the sides. It was so cute! I brought it home and plan on painting it sometime this week so that Brock can continue to play in his "house".

Since Brock was at Granna's, Brad and I got to go to dinner on Friday night. It was nice to not have to rush. We went to Carrabba's which is one of our favorite places. It was really good!!

On Saturday, we went to Pop & D's at the lake. It was a dreary day outside but we still had a good time. Brock had fun riding on the boat and playing outside. He fed the fish and ducks. He loves to say "fish" and now is saying "lake".

When we got home on Saturday night, I ordered my new computer program for my monogram machine. I am so excited!!! Hopefully this will allow me to do many more things. I am going to practice and hopefully make some cute stuff....I will keep you posted.

August 21st

Today is special for two reasons:

First....
Brock is 20 months old today! I cannot believe how he is growing so fast. He is still a little guy weighing only about 23 or 24 pounds. His hair is finally growing good and he has a good bit of blonde hair. He is VERY active and loves to climb and crawl on everything!! His favorite show is now "Barney" instead of "Blues Clues". He loves playing with his blocks and toy broom. He is trying his best to talk so much. His favorite words right now are "knock knock", "Amen", "light", and "peace". Brad has taught him to flex his muscles when he says "show me your guns" which is so funny. This age is really fun and Brock is learning so much. I know the terrible twos are quickly approaching (some days I think they are already here) and I hope that they do not last long. We are looking forward to all the special days ahead!

Second....
Emery is ONE today! Emery is our niece that lives in Auburn. We will be celebrating with her next Sunday at her party. HAPPY BIRTHDAY EMERY!!

Crib vs. Toddler Bed

Brock is going to be 20 months old this week....I cannot believe it. I am trying to decide if he is ready for the conversion of his crib to a toddler bed. Right now, when he wakes up he has to yell "mom" or "dad" for us to come and get him. That is nice. This way we know where he is. If we convert to a toddler bed, then he can get out on his own, which scares me a little. I know that he is getting older and is a "toddler" but is he really ready for the toddler bed??? For you moms out there, when did you convert to toddler beds and what are your suggestions for a smooth transition? Thanks for all your help (in advance).

Family Fun Day

Today we decided to spend the day together as a family. We wanted Brock to do something fun so we took him to the IMAGINE IT!! Children's Museum in Atlanta. We had a great time! Brock got to play in the balls, with a train, in the work zone, in the sand, paint a picture, tumble on the mats, fish, and much more. I really suggest this place if you have children under 8 and are looking for something for children to do in the Atlanta area. We certainly will take Brock again. After we left the museum we decided to walk over to Olympic Park. It was neat to see and to remember that in 1996 the Olympics were in Atlanta. We then headed to The Varsity. You just cannot go to Atlanta without eating at the famous Varsity. Brock was exhausted and slept on the way home. We had a great day together and we hope that you did too!!

Thank goodness it is Friday!!! This week has been busy with errands, work, gym, visits, and playing. I am still working on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Brock is still enjoying playing with his babysitter. He seems to take better naps for her instead of me (wonder why that is???). We took a quick trip to Cedartown on Wednesday to visit grandparents and great-grandparents. Today we had a lunch date with Megan and McKenzie. Now, we are finally home to rest before the weekend begins. We are planning to take Brock to the IMAGINE IT Children's Museum tomorrow so that he can play and explore. We will post pics when we get home. Other than that we are just going to hang out. We hope that you have a GREAT weekend!!!

New Baby in the Family

Congratulations to my cousin Mary and her husband Matt!!!! Mary had her little baby girl today at 1:12 pm. Her name is Maris Kate and she weighs 7 lbs. 1 oz. Mary had a really short labor and everything is going great. Please pray for them as this is a huge life change and for the health of the sweet baby girl.

Today Brock and I spent a lot of time playing together. Brad had to work because of quarter end close at the Home Depot so Brock and I spent another day of quality time together. First, we took a walk around the neighborhood. Brock loves to ride in his stroller and point out all the "burds" (birds) along the way. On the way home, we stopped at the neighborhood playground and played. After we got home and had a "nack" (snack) we then went outside and played in his little pool that Granna and Grandaddy Greg bought him. He calls it the "beach" so that is the reason for today's blog title. He played and splashed for a while and then it was lunch and nap time. I was exhausted too so I took a little nap myself. This afternoon we played blocks and colored. It was a really good day and Brock did not have to go to time out one time. I love Saturdays that we do not have much planned and we can just hang out. Saturdays are about to get busy with AUBURN football games.....YEAH!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot wait!

Uneventful Week

It has been a week since making a post and I know that you are just wondering what have we been doing.....nothing!!!!

This week we have just been taking it easy. Brock's face is much better. All the red spots are gone and the color of his cheek is turning back to the pinkish color that it usually is. He has been playing with his blocks and Little People car garage this week and asking "What's this?" all week long. Hopefully he is learning what we tell him but he is already asking "What's this?" again before we can answer him the first time. He is getting more teeth and is back to drooling a lot. He has also developed a love for Barney this week. He wants to watch it all the time and he loves to dance to all the songs. He got to meet a new friend on Wednesday, Matthew. He was born in June and hopefully will be playing with him soon. (I went to Auburn with Matthew's mom and we were both Tri-Deltas. Brad works with his dad at Home Depot....small world.) Tonight, Brock had a date with Miss McKenzie. We went to dinner with our friends, Jason & Megan and their daughter. Both children were so good and so that made the dinner more enjoyable. Other than that, just a slow uneventful week here at The Slocumb home. We hope that you had a great week.

No news is good news

Not really much going on here this week. We have just been relaxing and playing while Brock's face is recovering. All the swelling is gone and most of the red marks or "blueberries" are disappearing. Now we just have to wait on the red on his cheek to fade so that we can see if the surgery is working. He is such a little trooper and has not let the whole surgery thing bother him at all.
